Live: 17:50 - 18:20
Montréal and Oakland-based neuroscientist by day, DJ and producer by night, Michael Lifshitz
Hazy ambient house for the twilight hours. Iridescent, bubbling dancescapes woven together with hardware samplers, analogue synthesizers, and tape delays.
In June of this year, Lifshitz offered neuroscience education to Tibetan monastics in exile at the Drepung Loseling Monastery in India.

Spiritual consciousness meets soaring synth melodies in dj dolphin’s hazy house for the twilight hours: iridescent, bubbling dance-scapes woven together with hardware samplers, analogue synthesizers, and tape delays.

Michael Lifshitz's contemplative house music is informed by his deep scientific knowledge of altered states of consciousness. He recently finished his doctorate at McGill University studying the neuroscience of spiritual experience. He won the 2016 Best Book Award from the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis for a book he co-edited. Now working at Stanford University, he runs brain-imaging studies by day while moonlighting as the rhythmically cognitive dj dolphin. Based out of Montréal and Oakland, Michael has performed his music around the world, holding down a biweekly community house night at Montréal’s Korova Bar, while also performing at the Institut Fuer Zukunft in Leipzig, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Prague, and the Fusion Festival in Mecklenburg.

For his MUTEK debut, Lifshitz brings appreciably interdisciplinary practice to the stage, ready to dole out repeated jolts of spellbinding beats and psycho-existential enlightenment.
