In duelling synths and an array of electronics, Charbonneau / Amato invoke complex textures and delicate melodic threads to shape spacious, inviting ambient soundscapes.
Multi-instrumentalists, producers and composers, Mathieu Charbonneau and Pietro Amato have worked together for several years, beginning with instrumental trio Torngat alongside percussionist Julien Poissant, recording four albums and touring widely. Amato and Charbonneau also contributed to instrumental project Ferriswheel and toured and recorded as core members of spirited and inventive indie band The Luyas. French horn player and electronics master Pietro continues to work with The Luyas, is a member of six-piece instrumental group Bell Orchestre, has worked in studio and on tour with Arcade Fire and regularly collaborates with other musicians. Pianist, keyboardist and composer Charbonneau remains a core member of cinematic synth-folk bands Timber Timbre and Avec Pas d'Casque and has created two solo albums of piano-based music. Despite making music together for so long, Charbonneau and Amato's Synth Works Vol.1 marks the first time they've recorded a full album as a duo. Inspired by early electronic artists such as Harmonia, Neu! and Laurie Spiegel, the instrumental album takes an absorbing, pensive pace in its modular synth elements and minimalist arrangements.
Charbonneau / Amato joins MUTEK's legendary Sunday night closer, permeating the SAT dome with calming and compelling live compositions, interwoven with drifting synth waves, even-keeled rhythms and profound heart.
